Bull Run Winery

As the area continues to re-open, I wanted to explore a winery I have not had the opportunity to try. Last week I decided to venture out to the Winery at Bull Run. Although the tasting room is still not open, there is plenty of outdoor seating to accommodate a number of guests. You must make a reservation in advance and pay a $10 fee. Upon arrival, the host will meet you, in a mask, and show you to the table you have reserved. You may opt for the patio, which is covered or on the lawn next to the vines. You are required to wear a mask, even outdoors when not at your table.

Since they are not doing tastings, you can opt to buy a whole bottle, by the glass or a tasting flight.

Fifteen dollars will get you 6 very small sips of their wines, literally in pre-poured portions in little tiny cups. It reminded me of the serving of mouthwash I get at the dentist. Not the most enjoyable wine tasting I have ever had!

But since Covid, we have all had to readjust our expectations! At least they marked the "glasses" with a sharpie and the view was nice. On Fridays they have a local food truck providing food. Check their calendar for who is catering the day you plan to go.

The day I was there, it was Two Smooth Dudes with over the top tater tots. To be honest I am not normally a huge fan of tater tots, but they were good. I ordered the buffalo chicken version, which came with a healthy, and not too spicy saucy shredded chicken over hot and crispy tots. In addition, I tried the spinach wrap. Their menu is a little odd, vegetarian wraps and tater tops smothered in cheese and sauce. I ate it all and was so hungry I forgot to take a picture! You will just have to go try it yourself.

As for the wines, average. I liked the Delaney and Petit Verdot. I could have skipped the rest.

The experience was pleasant and I would go back. They even have live bands on the weekends! I still prefer Stone Tower Winery for the scenery and wines, but Bull Run is much closer to my house.
